چکیده

We present measurements of the phase coherence time tf in six quasi-1D Au wires and clearly show that tf is temperature independent at low temperatures. We suggest that zero-point fluctuations of the phase coherent electrons are responsible for the observed saturation of tf. We introduce a new functional form for the temperature dependence and present the results of a calculation for the saturation value of tf. This explains the observed temperature dependence of our samples as well as many 1D and 2D systems reported to date. [S0031-9007(97)03022-6]

Fully polarized states and decoherence

The aim of this review is to show how “ferromagnetic” states, that is, states having a fully polarization, can produce intrinsic decoherence by unitary evolution. This effect can give an understanding of recent experiments on mesoscopic devices as quantum point contacts showing the 0.7 conductance anomaly and the wide number of data about saturation of dephasing time observed at very low temper...

Measurement of Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in mesoscopic metallic rings in the presence of a high-frequency electromagnetic field

We report measurements of Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in normal metal rings in the presence of highfrequency electromagnetic fields. The power dependence of the decoherence time scale P agrees well with the anticipated power law P −1/5 when the field-induced decoherence rate ac −1 is large compared to the intrinsic decoherence rate o , measured in the absence of external fields. As theoretically...

Decoherence from internal degrees of freedom for clusters of mesoparticles: a hierarchy of master equations

A mesoscopic evolution equation for an ensemble of mesoparticles follows after the elimination of internal degrees of freedom. If the system is composed of a hierarchy of scales, the reduction procedure could be worked repeatedly and the characterization of this iterating method is carried-out. Namely, a prescription describing a discrete hierarchy of master equations for the density operator i...

Geometrical dependence of quantum decoherence in circular arenas with side-wires.

Low-temperature quantum phase coherence lengths were experimentally measured in mesoscopic circular arenas fabricated on InGaAs quantum wells. The arenas are connected to wide sample regions by short side-wires, to investigate the effects of geometry in comparison to intrinsic materials properties on quantum decoherence. Universal conductance fluctuations were used to quantify the phase coheren...

The fundamental problem of phase saturation of electrons in a disordered mesoscopic system at very low temperatures is addressed. The disorder in the medium has both static and dynamic components, the latter being in the form of two-level systems (TLSs), which becomes just about the only source of inelastic scattering in the limit T → 0. We propose that besides the inelastic nature of scatterin...
